home coffee honey macadamias candy order Smithfarms: Established in 1988 and on the Internet Since January 1999! |
Painted Church Road where I have run and walked, with my friends and family, for over 17 years! I know every step. Two miles one way on a fairly level road that has many old Hawaiian aspects.
One day I went by myself and took my camera to capture some of my high lights.
Thumbnails were too hard with my program so I hope you can see these okay.

"liquid copper" new young mango leaves
|
little older young mango leaves I love the contrast and then the young leaves get stiff and green |
baby common mangoes we make mango chutney every year, as did my mother and my grandmother before me--so we study the mango development to get just the right timing- late May or early June
|
|
The Painted Church itself - a small famous Catholic Church with primitive (as in Grandma Moses primitive) artwork on its walls |
from its back side the main reason I took my camera. I didn't want this curvy coconut tree to fall down with out its being photographed. I am standing on the street |
from its front (coffee plants underneath) |
the strongest part of that coconut tree I think |
a baby breadfruit-ulu-. one of the 26 canoe plants brought here by the first migrators to Hawaii. Same plant Capt. Bligh had on Mutiny on the Bounty
|
Belladonna flowers- they smell good but are part of the deadly nightshade family |
Noni fruit nestled in its leaves. Noni has medicinal value though it smells awful when it is ripe and has fallen to the ground -be sure not to step on it:) |
I love the name of this farm "Dreamland Farm":)with a heart between the 2 porpoises sorry the photo can't be made better |
early morning sun- one of many stonewalls found all over the Kona districts- stonewalls were made to primarily clear the land and to keep the wild pigs out & besides.....rocks are plentiful on a lava made island |
|
"persistence" would be my title for this a close up of a night blooming cereus spike, growing through the beautiful Monstera leaf |
photo taken from the road, about 20 feet above the new coffee planting. spacing looks too close to me |
flowers from a brassia tree they are made into leis now days although the flowers have no scent they are hardy |
|
beautiful and sweet smelling pink plumerias. The best for leis and for smell, and plumerias come in an abundance of colors |
a close up of a strangler fig around the base of a Monkey Pod tree. wild chickens use the fig roots to scamper up the huge monkey pod tree |
I took this photo from the base looking up early in the morning. I love this tree! to me it is the quintessential coconut |
|
over the trees -I mainly wanted to show the pacific Pacific Ocean way out there. You can actually see the current lines in the ocean. Swimming is good here and the water is about 76 degrees |
a coconut tree and a Royal Ponciana tree snuggling |
another stonewall. no mortar or anything ---just careful "dry stacking" makes a dry stacked stonewall |
|
a gold dusted day gecko (originally from Madagascar) on an old palm frond. the gecko has pretty pink spots and is very happy in Kona |
in historical times, Gourds were very important as water carriers and also musical instruments. they are still used for music |
The sign to know when you have reached the end of Painted Church. The
end |
